Anti-Breakage / Anti-Aging Best Hair Products
Think your hair is doomed to breaking, dry/dull, just never-gonna-grow failure over 40?
So did I, but I have tried a few hair items that I really find work quite well so I thought I'd share. Even though this isn't skincare, it all goes together to create the best image possible.
Look good, feel good, right?
#1 Ditch the POO
I found several years ago that switching to a "cleansing conditioner" has really, really helped my hair grow, stay shinier and more full. I use WEN, but there are several on the market to try.
Every time I try regular shampoo, no matter how wonderful or expensive it is, it makes my hair dry and dull and I'm back to the WEN. It works for me, but even if you don't want to go that route, there are a few other options.
#2 PRE-POO
I do a "pre poo" now and it has really helped even more.
This is simply done:
-Before my shower I scoop about a half-pump (~2 tbsp) of WEN and distribute it to my hair from mid-shaft to ends and really massage it into the ends. I let it sit for about 3 minutes and then jump in the shower, thoroughly wet my hair (don't completely rinse it out), apply more to my scalp and work it through.
Let it sit for the entire shower and then rinse.
If you use regular shampoo, do this with a light conditioner or oil as a pre-poo. It will work the same way. When you get in the shower after letting it sit for a few minutes, just shampoo and condition as usual.
The extra boost of moisture really helps dull, dry, aging hair PLUS it keep the water from seeping into the hair cuticle which is what drys/dulls hair in the first place.
#3 Feed it from within
I've found that hair vitamins really do work. If you've thought about them, I have to say that they've helped quite a lot for helping to grow and thicken my own hair.
I had a health issue a few years ago which led to me taking a prescription that really didn't help my hair or skin...thin, dull, yuck.
But after taking two vitamins for hair/skin, I can honestly say I notice a nice improvement.
My favorites: Viviscal (yes, the ones you see commercials for) and PRO-CAPS Hair, Skin, Nails (Andrew Lessman/HSN). You can find others, but these I can vouch for.
Not cheap, no, but they do seem to work (in my opinion). You do need to take them consistently for some time to see improvement. The Pro Caps I saw results in about a month; the Viviscal took a few months (3+).
Next ... I'll share my favorite hair-restore products. There are a couple that work oh-so-well!
